Halloween 2012

What a fun night!  Halloween isn't a largely celebrated holiday by Germans, but in the international community that we live in there are plenty of other families from other countries that do.  There are 'known' streets in town where there is guaranteed to be plenty of homes handing out treats for trick-or-treating and our's is one of them.  We had so many trick-or-treaters that we ran out of candy early in the night!  And a bonus: Chad and I found quite a few homes that handed out adult 'treats' as well - beer and glühwein.  Glühwein is a traditional German fall/winter drink made from mulled wine, usually red, and served hot or warm.  It was different, but good!  We'll be sure to make it back to those homes next year!

*Sofia's 2nd Halloween was spent at home in bed.  She wasn't feeling good and went to bed early which meant that I could join Chad and the kids while they went trick-or-treating.  My mom was here and stayed at the house to pass out candy.  Thanks, mom!  Later that night?  3 of the 6 of us ended up with the stomach flu.  Nicht gut!

Natalie chose to be Queen Cleopatra for Halloween.  Unfortunately, her costume didn't arrive until 2 days after Halloween.  We're still getting our money's worth out of it though - she hasn't taken it off since it arrived in the mail.  She even slept with the arm bands on.

Some of the German homes that participated in trick-or-treating asked the kids who knocked on their door to sing a song for their treat.  It's a good thing that our group of American children were trailing a group of German children and could follow along with (or pretend to follow along with) their chosen song.  When we asked what the song said, one of the German moms told us it was a traditional children's song about ducks swimming in water and had nothing to do with Halloween.  Funny!
